Yesterday it was revealed that Mesut Özil’s situation at Fenerbahçe has only gotten worse following his departure from Arsenal in 2020.
The 33-year-old has been banned by the Turkish giants alongside Ozan Tufan but what happened? Let’s take a look…
Why was Mesut Özil banned?
Well, after that mirrorÖzil has been banned from Fenerbahçe after a verbal altercation with interim manager Ismail Kartal.
The German came on as a half-time substitute in Fenerbahçe’s 2-1 win over Konyaspor in the Süper Lig on Sunday.
It’s unclear what was said between the pair, although the alleged incident is believed to have happened after his withdrawal at half-time.
Özil has been kicked out of the first-team and will not be allowed to train or play first-team games together with Tufan until further notice.
After what happened between him and Mikel Arteta in north London, it’s not ideal for the attacking midfielder to be drawn into more controversy.
Possible lifeline for Mesut Özil at Fenerbahçe
Things are not looking good for Özil at Fenerbahçe but that could change soon.
There is no guarantee that Kartal will take charge next season so his potential replacement could come in and reintegrate the former Real Madrid maestro.
Surely with his talent, the Turkish giants won’t want to keep him on the sidelines for too long or it will cost them on the pitch.
Hopefully the former Arsenal playmaker can turn things around in Turkey.
