Dating in New York City is not an easy task. Contrary to what romantic comedies would have us believe, you’ll probably never meet the love of your life on the subway, at a coffee shop, or while walking your goldendoodle in Central Park. Everyone in NYC is super busy, unfriendly and gets bored easily.

Luckily, dating apps like Hinge make it easier to meet people. But even if a match ticks all the boxes, they could still get spooky for reasons as trivial as living far away in another county. Or, as one woman shared on TikTok, refused to pay extra for cheese on a burger.

On TikTok, a woman said she left a date after the man didn’t pay extra to get cheese on his burger.

A TikTok creator named Dafna (@dafna_diamant) recently took to the platform to share details from a hinge date she just fled. Yes, fled because she left earlier, because she was so put off by him.

She begins to tell the story:

They meet in a restaurant. When it comes time to order, she chooses Branzino and he orders a burger. The waitress then asks him if he would like cheese on it. After learning it would cost $3 more, he declines, later remarking to Dafna, “Oh my god, you have to pay extra for everything these days.”

Dafna replies, “Yes, it’s New York City.”

Then the food comes out. She eats until she is full and excuses herself to go to the bathroom with her purse in hand.

“I just paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant and texted him, ‘The check is clear, you should have gotten the cheese.’ And I blocked him,” she said as she exited TikTok.

The crowd went wild in the comments section. But not in the way Dafna would have liked.

Some people were shocked by their behavior. Others agreed with the guy, claiming that $3 is a pretty steep charge for cheese. Some even praised him for being responsible with his money.

A day after sharing this video, Dafna followed up with another video discussing these “crazy” comments she received on the video.

It seemed like the nastiness in her comments section had escalated, from her disagreement on how she behaved on the date to “commenting that I’m ugly, that I’m a 4, that I’m a 2, [and] I don’t deserve love,” she said.

Dafna further commented that she would “laugh” at the date and so would the guy. They even planned a second date.

This raised eyebrows from many TikTok users as she previously said she blocked him.

Dafna also shared that she is an unpaid intern who is “broke” and in debt. But she added, “If I go on a date with a friend or go to a restaurant, I won’t talk about money.” She says she just wants to have a good time.

In another follow-up video, she informed users that this guy is not on social media as she called other men who allegedly claimed they were him on the platform.

But by this point, users seemed to be quickly losing interest in her story anyway.

“I’m starting to think this is all a social experiment or something, it can’t be real at this point,” one user wrote.

Another said: “It would be more entertaining if you kept the story straight. Apparently he knew about it two videos ago and laughed with you?”
