Bridgerton season 2 release date and storyline preview

Bridgerton season 2 was released on Friday March 25, 2022 – exactly 15 months since the launch of season 1 in 2020.

While the first part of the show explored Daphne Bridgerton’s arrival on the debutante scene and her relationship with the Duke of Hastings, the second part looks at Anthony Bridgerton’s attempts to find a wife of his own.

Elsewhere, however, the identity of the anonymous Lady Whistledown remains a hot topic among members of the ton, as her infamous scandal sheets remain a must-read for high society.

Will Lady Whistledown be revealed in Bridgerton Season 2?

At the end of Bridgerton’s second season, two notable characters know that Penelope is posing as the anonymous Lady Whistledown.

The first of these characters is Madame Genevieve Delacroix, a seamstress for the barrel who Eloise Bridgerton suspected was the anonymous author in Season 1.

Madame Delacroix arrives to learn the secret after seeing Penelope buying printing material for Whistledown’s letters at the market.

But instead of revealing the secret, Madame Delacroix finally agrees to help Penelope spread Lady Whistledown’s works, using her shop as an excuse to pass on the infamous scandal papers.

The second person to learn of Lady Whistledown’s true identity is Eloise Bridgerton, Penelope’s best friend.

As season two progresses, Eloise is framed as the writer herself, and the queen threatens to bring down the Bridgertons if she doesn’t admit it.

Instead, Eloise doubles down on her quest to find the real Lady Whistledown, and with the help of Theo Sharpe, who works at the printing shop where the letters are produced, she learns that Madame Delacroix has been helping the mysterious writer.

She doesn’t have all the pieces together yet, but eventually Eloise and Penelope reunite at the Featheringtons’ prom in Episode 8, and Eloise begins to notice the attention Penelope pays to the other guests.

After agonizing over the identity of Lady Whistledown for two seasons, Eloise finally puts the pieces together and learns that her own friend was the anonymous author all along.

What could the discovery mean for Season 3?

For now, only Eloise and Madame Delacroix know that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, and as such, Penelope believes she can continue posing as an anonymous writer by the end of season two.

How long this can go on like this remains to be seen.

After learning of her friend’s deception, Eloise says she never wants to see or speak to Penelope again.

Though initially saddened by the breakdown of their friendship, Penelope chose to continue writing as Lady Whistledown.

But if her letters continue to threaten Eloise and the Bridgerton family, could Eloise be tempted to reveal Penelope’s secret to the rest of the ton?

Hopefully we’ll find out when Bridgerton season 3 finally arrives.
