The 2022 Oscars took a dramatic turn when Will decided to take to the stage and smack Chris for a joke he made about Jada Smith. While everyone in the audience was shocked, people who had seen the show wondered if he might lose his prize.

With the Academy also tweeting about it, several questions are flooding social media.

Will Will Smith lose his Oscar?

The chances of Will losing his Oscar are reduced since the actor isn’t summoned by Chris himself.

In a statement to page six, the Los Angeles Police Department said, “LAPD investigators are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. In the incident, one person hit another. The person concerned declined to make a complaint to the police. If the party involved desires a police report at a later date, the LAPD is available to prepare an investigative report.”

Given that Chris has decided not to press charges, it seems all is settled between the two.

What did The Academy tweet?

The incident came as a surprise to many as people were confused and unsure how to react. Shortly after Will slapped Chris, The Academy took to their Twitter account to get some air.

The tweet read: “The Academy does not condone violence of any kind. Tonight we are thrilled to celebrate our 94th Oscar winners, who deserved this moment of recognition from their peers and film lovers around the world.”

While the tweet may have hinted that Will might lose his award, it’s important to note that the official account for The Academy shared the actor’s speech after he won the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Since his win was celebrated, it’s highly unlikely that Will will have the Oscars taken away from him.

What did Will Smith say in his speech?

Will didn’t apologize to Chris during his speech, but did take a moment to apologize to the audience and the Academy.

He said: “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. At this time in my life, at this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is asking me to do and be in this world,” he continued. “In making this film, I had to protect Aunjanue Ellis, who is one of the strongest and most tender people I’ve ever met. I have to protect Sanaya and Demi, the two actresses who played Venus and Serena.”

He continued, “I have been called in my life to love people and to protect people and to deliver to my people and to be a flow to my people. I know what we’re doing, you have to be able to take abuse. You have to be able to get people talking crazy about you. In this business you have to have people who treat you with disrespect. You have to smile and pretend that’s okay,” before apologizing to the academy for his actions.
