Winner of the climate propaganda prize – watts with that?

Guest Post by Kip Hansen – June 16, 2022

The Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) at University of Columbia which supports the climate propaganda organ, Cover climate now (CCNow), has announced its bizarre world-based “2022 Cover climate now Journalist Award”. Of course, the term “journalist award” is contradictory – what these people produce is the opposite of journalism, it is the worst kind of propaganda:

propagandaDissemination of information – facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths or lies – to influence public opinion. propaganda is that more or less systematic attempt to manipulate other people’s beliefs, attitudes, or actions through symbols (words, gestures, banners, monuments, music, clothing, insignia, hairstyles, motifs on coins and stamps, etc.). Intent and a relatively strong emphasis on manipulation distinguish propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas. [ source: Britannica.com ]

The general emphasis that makes up the type of reporting that is insisted on CJR and Cover climate now is that it is more than on purposeit is organized and coordinated, and Admittedly manipulative public opinion, attitudes and actions.

If you’re not sure if this is true, you just have to look at what CCNow did during the last US national election:

“Only a few weeks until the US elections Cover climate now and its media partners illuminate politics and climate: Why are the 2020 elections so decisive for the climate in the USA and worldwide? What are the most important choices for the climate? How are young voters changing the conversation? To answer these and other questions, CCNow started one #ClimatePolicy2020 joint reporting week running September 21-28. To kick off the week, a number of partners raised the voices of the young people whose lives will be most impacted by the climate crisis.”

They spread stories like:

“As the wildfires in the western United States have made clear, the climate crisis is here and requires action now.”

“A second Trump term would be ‘game over’ for climate, says top scientist”

“Kentucky’s climate is suffering. Can the state cut the industry ties that are preventing change?”

“These races will shape what the US election means for climate protection”

“Facebook loophole allows climate deniers to spread misinformation”

These stories, many of them in foreign (non-US) newspapers, were all aimed at that manipulate voting in the 2020 elections.

Newspapers and media are now allowed to write or disseminate the opinions and political views of their owners – but it is even expected to do so only on the editorial page or in segments clearly identified as commentary or opinion or editorial. If they do so on the pages or in broadcasts presented as “news” – as journalism – it is a bold and calculated breach of that Ethical standards of professional journalism. Even the wildly inaccurate and biased NPR has a code of ethics that is obviously just ignored when reporting on US politics, the climate or the culture wars.

CCNow has electricity ongoing misinformation and disinformation campaigns (of which it is quite proud):

food & water: How is climate change affecting our food and water? From June 27th to July 1st, CCNow and our partners will investigate this question.

Climate & Democracy: Before Earth Day, CCNow Partners examined how the erosion of democratic systems around the world is affecting our ability to solve the climate crisis.

climate crime: A series of CCNow and the Guardian investigates Big Oil’s complicity in the climate crisis and investigates attempts to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable.

You might think that a few enthusiastic activists in Columbia (forever a hotbed of madness) won’t make much of an impact – and you’d be oh so wrong! CCNow pumps these stories to hundreds of major media outlets in over 50 countries. See their partner list. Look for the damaging, twisted stories and biased reports – they’ll even show up in your small local weekly newspaper, courtesy of CCNow‘s free story sharing service.

Under the headline: The 2022 Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards recognize outstanding coverage of the greatest story of our time:

“For the second year in a row, the global media collaboration Covering Climate Now honors journalists who provide the most comprehensive coverage of the approaching climate emergency and its many solutions. 2022 Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards winners include journalists from Guardian, Agence-France Presse, Al Jazeera English, PBS NewsHour, Globo and HBO Max, as well as The Third Pole, Grist, the Post and Courier, the Los Angeles Times and WGBH- PRX. Justin Worland, senior correspondent for TIMEwas named Climate Journalist of the Year.”

“Increasingly, cutting-edge journalists and newsrooms are recognizing the urgency of the climate story, reporting it on the ground, and educating people and policymakers who can drive solutions,” said Kyle Pope, editor and publisher of Columbia Journalism Review and chair of the CCNow Awards judging process. “By recognizing the very best in this reporting, we hope to inspire fellow journalists around the world to emulate the work of these exceptional colleagues.”

When your child comes home from school and babbles about how the world will end “because of climate change”; when your teen tells you they will never marry or have children “because of climate change”; when your 20-year-old drops out of college and walks on their ass because “what’s the use? climate change,” you know who’s to blame.

The awards are given to them Propagandists most responsible for emerging mental illnesses: climate scare, climate despairand the utter Malthusian madness manifested in the movements of the climate warriors.

So, Congratulations! to Justin Worland (whom I have never heard of, nor have I seen or read even a cursory reference to his work to date). He is apparently famous in certain circles of climate madness sufferers.

And of course the Ministry of Climate Propaganda and the Ministry of Truth would like to thank Justin and the following fake news channels for their support: Guardian, Agence-France Presse, Al Jazeera English, PBS NewsHour, Globo and HBO Max as well as The Third Pole, Grist, the Post and Courier, the Los Angeles Times and WGBH-PRX.

Author’s comment:

Such a perversion of journalism reminds me of what I’ve read about the worst of days tabloid press and seen in the Pravda-similar press in non-free countries. It seems more and more that the “free press” in the West has been compromised by the political and cultural attitudes of its owners and their journalists – journalists who are no longer bound by strict standards of accuracy and fairness (if they ever were). ….). Now they’re being singled out for slander, misinformation, disinformation and cultural correctness.

Despite this, I am confident that the future will be better than the past.

Read more, read a lot, read critically.

And thanks for reading here.
