Woodgate reacts to what the new Spurs signing did tonight

It’s been a bad night for Tottenham Hotspur today.

Tottenham welcomed Southampton to North London in what should have been three more points in their bid to qualify for the Champions League next May.

However, the away team has completely different intentions tonight.

Southampton registered a 3-2 away win over Spurs on a night without many positives for the hosts.

There were quite poor individual defensive performances and to be honest, Antonio Conte’s men were lucky to only concede three goals.

But a positive thing has come in the performance of Rodrigo Bentancur.

The former Juventus midfielder joined Tottenham on transfer deadline day and even with the defeat here, Bentancur’s silk is likely to live long in the memory of some Spurs fans.

He came on for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at the last minute and had an immediate impact on the home side’s midfield, with a number of outstanding diagonal passes.

Bentancur has certainly enhanced his reputation but really, it was a lousy performance for Tottenham in general.
