Speaking of Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has spoken out about Kyle Walker-Peters after receiving his first call-up for England.

Wright was overjoyed to see Walker-Peters getting the nod for the Three Lions and he wondered why Tottenham ever let the right-back go.

In fact, Wright says he believes Walker-Peters is better than Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, and he seems baffled by Spurs’ decision to ditch Walker-Peters.

Wright spoke about the defense attorney.

“Kyle Walker-Peters, it’s great to see him coming in. I remember seeing him at Spurs and they got rid of Kyle Walker-Peters and brought in Aurier. I’ve watched Serge for a couple of games and thought Walker-Peters is a better player, they have Emerson Royal and I’m sorry he’s better than Emerson Royal and the same goes for Doherty although he has some great ones going forward accomplishes things. I watch him and think: ‘Why did Tottenham get rid of him?’ Why did they get rid of him seeing how he plays? I assumed he got the call, it helps him and gives him a buzz,” Wright said.

Should have given him a chance

Unfortunately for Spurs, Wright is spot on when it comes to Walker-Peters.

The full-back has surpassed Emerson Royal this season and while Doherty has recently had a resurgence, Walker-Peters has been more consistent than the Irishman.

His fine form has now been rewarded with a stint in England and that international recognition could be just what he needs to step it up a notch.
