Yellen warns nations not to remain neutral in Russia’s war with Ukraine

WASHINGTON – Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen said countries that maintain ties with Russia following its invasion of Ukraine risk being isolated from the global economy, sending a warning shot to nations that have so far remained neutral in the conflict.

As it and its allies agreed on a sweeping package of sanctions against Russia, the US has urged China, a close partner of Russia, not to provide substantial aid to Russia or take steps to circumvent the sanctions. It has also sought to persuade countries that have not imposed penalties on Russia’s economy, notably India, to take a tougher stance on Moscow.
