York County students help entertain York County SPCA dogs

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A group of students at the York County school are employing dogs while they wait to be adopted.

Sixth graders at Spring Grove Intermediate School in York County made “sniff mats” for the York County SPCA.

“I like doing it with my friends because I know it’s for a good cause,” said student Aubrey Shaffer.

“Sniff Mats” are designed to stimulate a dog’s natural sense of foraging, curiosity and exploration.

This type of activity makes dogs less anxious and helps burn off a lot of energy.

“I’ve always loved helping because I knew I could help any dog and make a big difference to them,” said student Lane Reeber.

Pupils have made about 100 sniffing mats in the past few months.
