York hosts the first recruitment fair of 2023

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – More than thirty companies were on hand to meet with potential employees at People’s Bank Park in York on Thursday, February 2, 2023.

“Events like this remove the barriers of navigating the site, navigating ‘I think this interests me’, but in this way we bring people face to face and that direct interaction really makes a difference ,” said Sully Pinos, executive director of the Bloom Business Empowerment Center.

Companies were able to schedule on-site interviews and discuss vacancies in areas such as construction, manufacturing and healthcare.

“I would say there is something for everyone and even if you initially think a job might not be for you, there is no harm in trying because you don’t know what your passions are or if you have any hidden talents have. You could explore and see what’s there for you, I say,” said Gloria Hopkins, a York resident.

Not only job seekers benefited from the job exchange, but also companies that wanted to increase their workforce.

“As a recruiter here, I can give people jobs. I will provide job training and coaching to nurture people from within and create opportunities that would not otherwise be accessible to members of our community,” said Dan Byrnes, a recruiter at Shipley Energy.

Although the job fair only ran from 12pm to 4pm, people were already waiting for the doors to open at 10am on Thursday.

“It’s always a great opportunity for people who may be employed or who may be looking or just looking for a new career path to have opportunities like this where they can explore and connect with companies without the risk of getting information directly from them receive and then make the best decision for yourself,” said Pinos.
