Zach Shallcross is open about some of the criticisms he’s received this season of The Bachelor, which are fan comments that he’s boring. he said in a podcast that being known as “a****** Bachelor” would be worse.

Shallcross commented on “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast in a live episode on February 16, 2023.

The podcast was hosted by Bachelor Nation’s Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt. The hosts asked Shallcross about his feelings about being called a boring bachelor.

Shallcross defended the show, telling podcasters that people should “just watch,” adding, “It’s going to be pretty good.”

He said that he didn’t really pay attention to the reaction of the fans at the beginning of the show.

“I didn’t have my phone with me at the time of the announcement, so I didn’t see the initial fanfare, for better or for worse,” he told podcasters. “I didn’t see any of that. In hindsight, like after filming, I found out about people calling me boring.”

His reaction to being called boring? “I was like okay, but just watch. It’s going to be pretty good.”

For his part, Amabile told Shallcross he doesn’t find him boring and respects the fact that he makes decisions that aren’t based on whether the contestants are “good for TV.”

Shallcross told the hosts he’s “not like the guy who causes unnecessary bulls***, but in life you find yourself in unnecessary bulls*** and that’s entertaining. To be honest it was a little weird at first and it kind of sucked.”

Shallcross revealed that he thinks being a villain is worse than being boring.

“You never like being told you’re boring, but then you look on the bright side and realize I could be called the crappy bachelor. That would be worse. I don’t want to be an a***** bachelor,” he said in the episode.

According to his comments on the episode, Shallcross had a theory as to why people think he’s boring.

“I know I was called a boring bachelor before the season started, but last season there wasn’t a lot of us guys shown,” he said.

“I absolutely understand where people are coming from because it seems like that random guy Zach that they saw just did a stupid thing on the ship and that’s about it.”
