Zack Snyder travels to space while Netflix helps him launch another series of films that they hope will grow into a massive franchise. This time it’s with rebel moon, a new sci-fi epic coming as two films from the prolific action director. The two films appear to be Netflix-owned films war of stars-like franchise. The first trailer for the film was released today at Gamescon and was introduced by Snyder himself.

The movie isn’t just (Are those lightsabers?) war of stars It is war of stars. The film grew out of a failed pitch for the franchise Snyder was involved with, but rather than accept defeat, he simply ran to Netflix and decided to make his own film out of it. In the film, Sofia Boutella plays Kora, a mysterious woman who must help some peaceful farmers in their fight against a galactic dictator. She must find the right fighters to rebel against the evil Empire and end its tyranny. Assembling a party of heroes to fight a great evil is undoubtedly not an original concept, but Snyder isn’t really known for originality, rather for blowing up good things and coming up with big, dumb ideas in some way for fun.

It is clear from the trailer that the film does not only take influences from others war of stars But dune And Firefly as well as. Of course, all sci-fi is a copy of earlier sci-fi, so that makes sense, but Snyder clearly has a vision for this film that reflects those classics. It also reflects his love of slow-mo, with numerous shots in this three-minute teaser alone.

The film has a star cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, as well as Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins as the voices of “Jimmy”. Starring Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy, Jena Malone, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi and Corey Stoll. Zack Snyder, Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten wrote the screenplay.
