I have STRONG FEELINGS about self care and ways to relieve stress, especially when it comes to zodiac self care rituals. Stress relief is different for everyone and is not a one-time activity, nor is there a one-size-fits-all solution. Self-care — in my not-so-humble opinion, because I’m a Gemini and humility is for nerds — is a commitment to taking care of yourself, even in times of stress or trauma. Especially in times of stress and trauma. It’s a practice that requires constant refinement, like yoga or any other skill you wish to master. And when you’ve practiced for the day, there’s always the option to treat yourself again tomorrow.
It really makes me ponder that self-care is treated as some sort of “upper class” luxury that only the privileged can afford. I’m sorry, but this is fake news! Self-care should be included. It’s not about having the perfect Instagrammable place to relax, or even a 10-step skincare routine that costs a month’s rent. (Although if these are your favorite methods of self-care, then kudos to you! Again, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all.) And as with most things, everyone’s self-care routine will be slightly different and should be tailored to their desires and needs be tailored to needs.
Anyway, my ax feels sharp enough to stop grinding it over and over, but here’s the truth: you’re the only person capable and equipped to take care of yourself. And it’s all too easy to put your needs (exercise, healthy eating, alone time, a clean space, whatever) at the bottom of the list when it shouldn’t be. Today I challenge you to try something different: put your mental and physical health FIRST and adjust everything else to that. Reprioritize so you’re at the top of the list. After all, how are you supposed to take care of all that other crap when you’re driving with zero fuel?

Self-care ideas for each zodiac sign
Aries: Unsubscribe from email blasts
Ok, at first I thought: This is boring. But honestly, a reckless unsubscribe spree has done such wonders for my sanity. You might think that it only takes a few seconds each day to clear the deluge of emails you receive daily (or let them rot in your inbox forever. Ugh!), but it’s an existential noise, that can increase your stress – just as much as a dirty car or that tedious work project you just can’t get done. Unsubscribe and enjoy the blissful silence of email notifications.
Bull: Get a plant
It’s like having a cute puppy, but with lower stakes! Green makes any space more inviting, and caring for plants (watering, fertilizing, cleaning the foliage, etc.) can be a cathartic experience. The more you learn about and care for plants, the more enjoyment you will get from growing your plants. Plus, you’ll enjoy picking a cute pot and exactly the type of plant you want – pathos and snake plants are great for beginners!
Twins: Take a meditative walk
…without headphones! You love exercise and a walk can be incredibly healing for you. But to get the maximum self-care benefit, you need to use this time wisely. It’s nice to unwind with a playlist or an intriguing podcast, but try it without the noise this time. Just you and your thoughts. See where they take you. Many a problem is solved with a walk without distraction.
Cancer: Read your favorite book again
Sorry but it has to be a physical book. Don’t get me wrong – I love Kindles and e-readers and use them quite a bit. But this is about getting off a screen and doing something that requires your undivided focus, so no technique allowed.
Lion: Put your phone in flight mode
Do not react to anything or anyone for 24 hours. PSA: There’s a setting you can set so that if you get called twice in less than five minutes or whatever — you know, in an emergency — someone comes through. But the point of this whole exercise is to focus on exactly what you want/need to do, rather than reacting to the wishes of others and the distractions of social media, capitalism, etc. See what a day of your life looks like without compromising on others. Enjoy your autonomy.
Virgo: Throw away five items that stress you out
It’s time to give your life to Marie Kondo, and you know exactly what I’m talking about, Virgo. Those pants you wanted to hem and never will. That old framed art print that you don’t even like anymore but have been trying to find a place for. A surfboard that you shoved in your closet for years even though you didn’t use it, eh ever because you hate sand and are scared to death of sharks. Remember: Physical clutter can manifest itself as emotional distress. So throw it out the window or recycle it. Your decision!
Scale: Set the mood
It doesn’t have to be a date or special occasion to set the mood. When you get home, put your things away and light a candle. Open your windows for a fresh breeze and play music that gives you a certain feeling. Saving your goodies or your cute underwear for a special occasion is a great way to make sure the small, good things in life pass you by, and you don’t want that to happen. Not to get all the TikTok omg you, but you need to start romanticizing your life! Don’t underestimate the power of a clean room or pretty twinkling lights. It’s enough for she to just enjoy it.
Scorpio: Cut up a lot of fruit
This is actually my self-help practice when I’m stressed. Pick out your favorite fruits, then slice them up into cute meal prep storage containers. If it sounds labor intensive, that’s because is (at least for today). But it’s MAGIC. Because while I’m cutting fruit and crying, I’m usually figuring out my shit too. And by the time I throw all the different rinds in the trash, I’m usually feeling a lot better. And I eat a lot of fruit too. super bonus!
Sagittarius: Everyone & All Screen Free Activities
There are so many of them: reading, writing, cleaning, crocheting, gardening, cooking, etc. Choose your favorite activity that doesn’t leave you gaping at any screen (and don’t be sneaky, okay). ? That is to the you!) and get into the groove of doing something with your hands that doesn’t scroll. There are so many things in this world that want to give us pleasure, and often we are our own worst enemy when we deny ourselves the pleasure of our bodies and the time to do something worthwhile.
Capricorn: Moisturize and hydrate
Speaking of extreme dry bed, this is a necessity more than self-care. BUT! Smearing your nubile body with various creams and tonics is a nice thing that we can all do for our body. And you, Capricorn, are a hard worker and one who overlooks things you find reckless. For self-care, consider getting into the swing of it by dipping into a large container of bougie moisturizer or night cream — or a cute one you found discounted at Marshalls. And not just your face! Get your whole body. As you slip into your sheets at night, I want you to feel like a smooth dolphin jumping into the waves with no fear of the future.
Aquarius: Non-punitive practice
I think one of the reasons some people think they hate sports is how many there are Extreme There are sports/routines. Exercise shouldn’t be punishing to be effective. Finding exercise (stretching, yoga, walking, tennis, dancing, etc.) that you don’t hate and that benefits your mental health is one of the absolute best things you can do for your body and brain. Find it and live foreverrrrrrr!
Fish: Make your bed/clear out your sleeping space
Why is it so easy to turn a bedroom/dorm into a gross, dank dungeon where you store all your weird shit that you’re supposed to throw away? I’m talking about you retainer of 2014 who hasn’t fit in the last three years! Clean your sheets, make your bed, and brave the horrors of your nightstand drawer. Throw away everything that isn’t strictly necessary, then live in the safe, clean air that’s your snooze place.
